PHOENIX (November 27, 2018) – The MIM Music Theater proudly announces its Winter/Spring 2019 Concert Series, which includes more than fifty concerts from January through May, spanning multiple musical genres across the globe.
Highlights this season include Rock and Roll and Blues Hall of Famer Elvin Bishop as part of Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio. The Nels Cline 4, a quartet featuring former Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, guitarist Julian Lage, bassist Scott Colley, and drummer Tom Rainey, will perform a versatile range of jazz music. Tom Rush, who helped shape the folk revival of the 1960s and inspired artists such as Garth Brooks and James Taylor, will deliver a performance filled with passionate music and storytelling.
The Winter/Spring 2019 Concert Series welcomes some artists who will be performing at the MIM Music Theater for the first time. New artists include Grammy Award–winning Hawaiian singer-songwriter Kalani Pe‘a; Dakh Daughters, a group composed of seven women that offers a genre-defying theatrical experience of dance and music; and the Ron McCurdy Quartet, who will give a multimedia performance of Langston Hughes’s iconic twelve-part poem Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz.
Guests can also look forward to the return of several favorites to the MIM Music Theater, including R. Carlos Nakai, the world’s premier performer of the Native American flute; classical pianist Alpin Hong; Grammy Award–winning South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo; and Lizz Wright, whose gospel-inspired vocals leave audiences spellbound.
The MIM Music Theater presents over 290 concerts per year and has had over 150 Grammy-winning artists perform on its stage. Within the span of only eight years, the theater has been recognized as one of the top music venues of its size, anywhere in the world. Audiences and musicians have praised its unparalleled intimate atmosphere and acoustically superb sound quality.
“We have been invited to some of the world’s greatest venues like the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, and also the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. But I tell you one thing, this theater and this museum are second to none,” says Allen Bailey, founder of Harlem Gospel Choir.
